Metallic
Abrasives

Metallic blast abrasives for robust continuous operation

Metallic abrasives are the economical choice for series applications with high throughputs. Steel shot is ideal for shot peening and surface compaction, angular steel grit delivers aggressive cleaning with long service life. Stainless steel abrasive is a ferrite-free, non-rusting medium – the right choice wherever no iron contamination may be introduced, for example in stainless steel fabrication, food and pharmaceutical industry as well as medical technology. Microbeads AG supplies all common grain sizes and hardness classes.

0.05 – 0.2 mm to 1.7 – 3.3 mm

Round stainless steel (Cr-Ni) is well suited for cleaning blasting and shot peening of stainless steels and non-ferrous metals. The material produces a uniform, silky-matt surface finish and is particularly effective on aluminium die-cast components. Its exceptionally long service life combined with low equipment wear makes this rust-free abrasive a highly economical choice.
Angular stainless steel grit (Cr-Grit) represents a cost-effective alternative to iron-free mineral abrasives owing to its outstanding service life. The angular grain geometry enables reliable preparation of stainless materials prior to subsequent surface coating.

Cast steel grit/shot

Product information – blasting media

0.10 – 0.20 mm to 2.00 – 2.80 mm

Angular chilled iron grit is used for de-rusting, descaling, roughening and preparing metallic materials for subsequent coating and painting operations. The sharp fracture edges that form during the blasting process ensure the grit retains its aggressive cutting action over time, resulting in short cycle times and very high abrasive performance.

Cast steel shot

Product information – blasting media

0.12 – 0.42 mm to 2 – 3.4 mm

Round cast steel shot is characterised by extreme toughness and high fracture resistance, making it ideal for the mechanical descaling and de-rusting of iron and steel components at extended service life. The spherical grain shape breaks up and removes scale and rust without roughening the workpiece surface, resulting in a bright metallic finish. Machine wear and maintenance costs for the equipment are significantly lower compared with angular abrasives.

0.04 – 0.18 mm to 1.70 – 2.36 mm

Angular cast steel grit is used for roughening metallic surfaces and cleaning metal components affected by tenacious contamination. Unlike spherical shot, which merely compacts the surface, angular cast steel grit achieves effective material removal. The result is a sharply profiled, rough surface texture that provides an excellent key for subsequent coatings such as paint, powder coating or galvanising. Suitable for use on centrifugal wheel and compressed-air blasting equipment.
