Mineral
Abrasives

Mineral blast abrasives for professional surface treatment

Mineral abrasives are the backbone of classical blast technology: from hard fused alumina and brown corundum for aggressive descaling and roughening to fine glass beads for uniform matting and peening. The right grain size and shape depend on the workpiece, the target finish and the machine. The Microbeads AG range covers the common requirements of the automotive, aerospace and metal fabrication industries and extends to fine granulates for the dental industry – complemented by specialties such as our own Glass Shot. We advise personally and individually, deliver from stock throughout Switzerland and worldwide and produce custom grain sizes on request.

Round glass beads

Round glass beads

Product information – blasting media

1 – 50 µm to 400 – 800 µm

Glass beads are a mineral, non-metallic fine blasting medium produced from glass, characterised by their spherical grain shape. The high degree of roundness, purity, and optical clarity makes them an ideal choice for gentle cleaning, smoothing, deburring, matting, and compacting of metallic and austenitic materials, resulting in a fine satin surface finish. Because the spherical shape produces material-friendly impacts without altering the workpiece surface, these microspheres are compatible with both dry and wet blasting equipment. Free of silica-related health concerns, glass beads are available across a wide range of grain sizes to match specific surface treatment requirements. They rank among the most widely used reusable blasting media worldwide and offer an economical, environmentally responsible alternative to manual or chemical surface preparation.

Angular glass granulate

Angular glass granulate

Product information – blasting media

40 – 80 µm to 400 – 1400 µm

Non-metallic, mineral blasting medium produced from glass, iron-free and reusable, featuring an angular grain shape. The angular geometry delivers more intensive derusting, descaling, and cleaning of metal surfaces compared to spherical media, while still achieving a fine degree of roughness. Compared to various corundum types, it acts with less aggressiveness, making it suitable for delicate substrates. The medium provides optimal surface preparation for subsequent coating or bonding applications and is particularly well-suited where media loss cannot be avoided. Compatible with both injector and pressure blasting systems.

Ceramic beads Zirblast / Zirshot

Ceramic beads Zirblast / Zirshot

Product information – blasting media

0 – 63 µm to 850 – 1180 µm

Highly resistant, iron-free, spherical ceramic blasting medium designed for demanding surface treatment applications. It enables careful, non-aggressive cleaning of sensitive surfaces such as moulds, tools, engine components, and turbine vanes, as well as shot peening of metal surfaces and high-quality surface finishing. The Zirshot variant is specifically engineered for shot peening processes. Compared to glass beads, this high-performance reusable medium offers a significantly longer service life, making it the preferred choice where the highest quality standards apply. Compatible with both centrifugal wheel and compressed air blasting systems.

Brown fused alumina

Brown fused alumina

Product information – blasting media

FEPA F10 to F220

Non-metallic, almost iron-free, high-quality synthetic blasting medium consisting predominantly of aluminium oxide. Its angular grain shape, combined with notable toughness and extreme hardness, makes it well suited for descaling and detindering of iron and steel structures, roughening of metal surfaces prior to coating application, as well as cleaning, deburring, and matting of a wide range of materials. Applied using pressure blasting systems.

Recycled corundum

Recycled corundum

Product information – blasting media

FEPA F16 to F220

Non-metallic, almost iron-free, high-quality blasting medium composed of a processed blend of normal and white fused alumina dusts together with ceramic grinding discs. The material undergoes extensive processing before being made available as a reusable blasting medium. It is excellently suited for descaling, deburring, cleaning, and roughening of components such as investment castings, as well as for satin finishing as a surface refinement process for stainless steel and glass.

White fused alumina

White fused alumina

Product information – blasting media

FEPA F10 to F220

Non-metallic, high-quality blasting medium manufactured from pure aluminium oxide, completely iron-free and suitable for repeated use. Its outstanding purity, extreme hardness, and angular grain geometry produce a strong abrasive action during blasting. The medium is designed for deburring, cleaning, and matting of high-grade materials in stainless steel and aluminium processing, and handles workpieces of extreme hardness reliably. Fields of application include aerospace, dental, galvanic, motor, reactor, and laboratory technologies. Applied using pressure blasting systems.

White fused alumina micro

White fused alumina micro

Product Information Abrasive

FEPA F230 to F1200

Iron-free, white, angular reusable blasting medium produced from high-purity aluminium oxide in micro grain sizes. It is ideally suited for lapping, honing, blasting, deburring, cleaning, and matting of high-quality materials. Thanks to its exceptional degree of purity, extreme hardness, and characteristic grain shape, white fused alumina micro fully meets the exacting demands of industries such as medical technology, optics, and cosmetics.

Pink fused alumina

Pink fused alumina

Product information – blasting media

On request

Non-metallic, high-quality synthetic fine blasting medium manufactured from pure aluminium oxide, suitable for deburring, cleaning, grinding, and matting of high-grade materials, including those in hardened condition. The addition of chromium oxide gives the medium a considerably extended service life and greater toughness than white fused alumina. Even after multiple blasting cycles, this reusable medium retains its sharp-edged grain geometry, achieving a high material removal rate within short blasting times.

White matting granulate

White matting granulate

Product Information Abrasive

FEPA F10 to F220

Non-metallic, high-quality matting granulate produced from pure aluminium oxide. Specifically developed for matting aluminium rims as a preparation step before painting, it is equally suitable for blasting high-quality materials such as stainless steel, brass, and aluminium. In fine grain gradations from F 100 to F 220, this granulate is particularly well suited to the gentle vortex blasting technique, enabling the finest possible surface finishes – for example in the processing and matting of aluminium rims, decorative blasting of premium workpieces, components, and decorative items.

Silicon carbide, green/dark

Silicon carbide, green/dark

Product information – blasting media

FEPA F10 to F1200

Silicon carbide is an iron-free, exceptionally hard, and angular mineral blasting medium, ranking among the most aggressive blasting materials available. In addition to its primary use for cleaning hardened surfaces and for grinding, lapping, and heavy-duty roughening, it is also employed as an additive in floor coatings that require wear-resistant and anti-slip properties. Applied using compressed air blasting systems.
